Why is LSU the only college team that is allowed to wear white jerseys at home?

Was watching the game over the weekend and noticed when the broadcaster mentioned that, but he never gave a reason to why the rule was changed for them, and only them.

I like their white jerseys.

Home teams have the choice of uniforms, they apparently choose to wear white. Probably due to the heat.

In football the home team has that option . When the NFL Steelers were on their Super Bowl run they opted to wear white instead of black because they were on a winning streak .

It's a tradition at home…LSU wears white @ home against SEC opponents and the home opener…Purple @ home for out of conference games. The rule was not "changed" for only them, it's the home teams choice.

White Jerseys — LSU is the only college football teams that wears white jerseys for home games. The tradition started in 1958, when Coach Paul Dietzel decided that LSU would wear white jerseys for the home games. LSU went on to win the national championship that year. Since then, LSU continued to wear white jerseys at home games. Then in 1982, new NCAA rules prohibited teams from wearing white jerseys at home. Because of this, LSU wore purple jerseys during home games from 1983 to 1994. In 1995, LSU's new coach, Gerry DiNardo, was determined to restore LSU's tradition of white home jerseys. DiNardo personally met with each member of the NCAA Football Rules Committee, lobbying LSU's case. DiNardo was successful, and LSU again began wearing white jerseys at home when the 1995 season began. In LSU's first home game with the white jerseys, unranked LSU staged a stunning 12-6 upset victory over #6 Auburn. In 2000, LSU's new coach, Nick Saban, altered the tradition of the white home jerseys: now LSU only wears white jerseys for the home opener and for home games against SEC opponents. For non-SEC home games other than the home opener, LSU wears purple jerseys at home

There is no rule that says you can't wear white for them. The home team can pick whatever color uniforms they want to wear.
LSU only wears purple for the first home game of the season, and any non-SEC game at home.

    More from Wikipedia:

A few college football teams traditionally wear white uniforms at home in football, most notably the LSU Tigers and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (although Tech currently wears gold jerseys at home under coach Chan Gailey). NCAA rules requiring the visiting team to consent to LSU wearing white at home can hurt them when they host an early season daytime home game, although when LSU faces another Southeastern Conference team, the NCAA rule does not apply, because SEC rules dictate that the home team will be allowed its choice of jersey color in conference game without prior approval of the visiting team. The Florida Gators twice took advantage of this SEC rule under former coach Steve Spurrier and wore white at home against LSU, forcing LSU to wear its purple jerseys in a daytime game in 2000 won by the Gators, 41-9.
